For new visitors to Campingly, I thought I’d give you a quick bit about us, our travels and our vans.
Campingly was started by Annette Sharp with the occasional article from me, Emma Dixon. We are long term partners and currently live in Bristol, UK. We have one cat called Sybil.
Our motorhome adventures began back in 2011 when we decided to take a year out and do some travelling. After immersing ourselves in everything to do with motorhoming, from shows, to magazines to blogs, we bought Dolly, a Hymer 584.
She was a great van but in hot weather the drop down bed was a bit claustrophobic but she took us to France and Spain.
Then we discovered American RVs. I’m still not sure how, but we were hooked, so Dolly had to go and we welcomed Eugene an R-Vision Trail-Lite 293TS. Supposedly 29 feet long but nose to tail she was just over 31 feet long. She was 8’4” wide. She was an awesome thing. She had 3 slide outs, a throaty V8 engine and pound signs on the mileometer. She took us to the South of France, all around the coast of Spain, to Madrid for Mardis Gras, and finally to Portugal.
After Eugene came Eugene Junior, a Chevrolet Get-Away. Bought sight unseen from ebay. We thought Eugene was just a bit too large, well I did, Annette thought she was just right, and we would downsize. Why? Even though we are quite small people we seem to need quite a large space in which to exist comfortably. Eugene Junior was great fun but she was a camper van, thus, small. We kept her for the summer and then she moved on.
Van number four was a Hobby 750. In immaculate condition, with great storage, nice to look at but no personality, and a really cramped bathroom. We never really bonded.
We browsed the internet and then made the big mistake of seeing a nice 26 foot Winnebago at Freedom Motorhomes. We were hooked again and traded the Hobby two weeks ago for a 2006 Winnebago Aspect 26A.
I’ve spent all the time since we got the Winnebago filling her with our possessions ready for our 6 week summer holiday which officially starts the moment our house sitters arrive from France tomorrow. We’re travelling in the UK and I’m very very excited.
Once were on the road I’ll post some photos of the van and tell you all about her. Oh yes, she’s called Wilma.
