I reckon most van owners have at least one van-related irrational worry…breakdowns, driving off with the roof lights still open, cassette toilet horrors…
My own irrational worry is mice. I’ve convinced myself that mice will move in over winter and make themselves comfortable by destroying the van’s inner workings. We’re only using her every couple of weeks through the winter, and she is stored on a farm, so my fears aren’t entirely unfounded. Or at least that’s my story!
MY protection strategy started off with a tip I found on an online forum – plugging various holes (or entry points!) with wire wool – the obvious ones being the waste water outlet and the vent holes in the gas locker.
But still I think those little critters will win. That’s why I find myself eyeing this nifty battery-operated mouse deterrant that humanely persuades mice and other rodents to go and play somewhere else. You can get similar devices that plug into a wall socket, but since it’s going to be in the van over winter, it has to be a battery-operated one. The batteries should last for 6 months.
